According to sources close to Real Sociedad, midfielder Martin Zubimendi is expected to agree to a move to Liverpool.
A previous report by The Athletic has mentioned Liverpool were interested in the 25-year-old player.
Liverpool have reportedly been actively pursuing Zubimendi to strengthen Arne Slot's team by adding a new number 6 to the squad. The main challenge of the transfer will be the £51.7million release clause, which would need to be paid in full unless Real Sociedad agree to a reduced fee. Real Socidad have previously stated If Zubimendi expresses a desire to depart, Real Sociedad is willing to accommodate his request.
A move to the Premier League would see Zubimendi become the first player since Xabi Alonso to transfer from the Basque club to Liverpool.
If Zubimendi was to move to Liverpool he would become Liverpool's first signing under the management of new head coach Arne Slot.
Liverpool have reportedly made it a priority to secure a new number 6 during the summer transfer window. Last summer, experienced Anfield players Jordan Henderson and Fabinho departed, while Thiago Alcantara retired in July.
A product of Real Sociedad's academy, Zubimendi has accumulated 187 appearances since his debut in 2019.
After finishing sixth in La Liga, Real Sociedad has already said goodbye to a key first-team player this summer, with Robin Le Normand joining Atletico Madrid.
