Liverpool has rejected offers from Bundesliga teams Mainz and Wolfsburg for Sepp van den Berg, as the defender is poised for a chance to impress in pre-season.
PSV Eindhoven has also expressed interest in the Dutch centre-back, whom Liverpool values at approximately £20 million.
Nonetheless, Van den Berg has caught the attention of new head coach Arne Slot since returning to Kirkby for pre-season training last week and might remain with the team.
The 22-year-old, who had a successful loan stint at Mainz last season, demonstrated his fitness by recording the highest average speed in the running tests over the weekend. Slot and his coaching team are convinced that the defender's technical skills have improved during his time in Germany.
Van den Berg is expected to have the chance to showcase his abilities during the forthcoming pre-season tour in America. Liverpool will depart for Pittsburgh on July 23 and will play their first friendly against Real Betis three days later.
Slot will have fewer options at centre-back soon, as captain Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Ibrahima Konate will be given a break after their participation in the Euros.
Van den Berg transferred to Liverpool for £4.4 million from Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle in 2019. He has made four senior appearances for the team under Jurgen Klopp's management, in addition to loan spells at Preston North End, Schalke, and Mainz.
