Caoimhin Kelleher has been advised by his new Ireland manager to leave Liverpool.

Caoimhin Kelleher has received advice to leave Liverpool this summer from his new head coach. Not only at Anfield has the goalkeeper witnessed a change in leadership; Arne Slot has taken over from Jurgen Klopp as the Reds' head coach, while the Republic of Ireland has finally appointed a new full-time manager after Stephen Kenny's departure last November.



John O’Shea, the Manchester United legend, has been the interim manager for the first half of 2024. However, the Boys in Green have now appointed Heimir Hallgrimsson as their new international manager.


Hallgrimsson, 57, resigned from his position with Jamaica last month after a group-stage exit at this summer's Copa America, with the Reggae Boyz finishing last in their group following defeats to Mexico, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Nonetheless, Hallgrimsson quickly found a new role as the head coach of the Republic of Ireland last week.


Hallgrimsson, renowned for leading Iceland to victory over England at Euro 2016 in their debut at the European Championships and then to their first World Cup in 2018, aims to guide Ireland to their first World Cup since 2002.


Upon assuming control of the Boys in Green, he was questioned about whether he believes Kelleher should seek first-team football away from Liverpool this summer. The Icelander affirmed that departing would be in the goalkeeper's best interest.


In a related video, the question was posed: Would Liverpool be content with just one trophy next season?


"Definitely, especially since he has proven that he can perform at the highest level," he remarked about Kelleher. "It would be regrettable if he doesn't play regularly after demonstrating his considerable talent and the level at which he can play."


To date, Kelleher has played 47 times for the Reds, including a personal best of 26 games last season. However, he has been relegated to being Alisson Becker’s backup for the past three seasons. As a result, he has
