Millwall is poised to secure the services of Liverpool's promising defender Calum Scanlon on a loan deal.
The 19-year-old left-back, previously with Birmingham, transferred to Merseyside in 2021 when he was 15 years old.
Scanlon has represented England at the U19, U18, and U17 levels. He debuted for Liverpool's senior team in their Europa League game against Toulouse in October 2023.
In April of this year, Scanlon committed to a long-term contract extension with the Merseyside club.
Reflecting on his move from his local team to Liverpool, he shared with the club's website, "It was an obvious choice. I was aware of what I needed to do. It was the best move for my growth.
"The moment I learned of Liverpool's interest in signing me, I was overjoyed. It was a fantastic sensation. Visiting the training ground, meeting the coaches, I realized I had discovered the ideal environment for my development. It felt surreal."
"The club was incredible, with a rich history and passionate supporters. It had everything one could desire. I immediately recognized it as a special place I wanted to join.
I first tried playing as a left-back around the U14s or U15s. It was challenging to adapt initially, but then I noticed I was involved with the ball more often.
Since then, I've enjoyed the role and felt at ease in that position. Of course, I'm happy to play anywhere, just to be on the field.
Transitioning to left-back introduced me to different game demands, and I quickly learned the importance of defense. I focused on being strong in one-on-one defense and continue to improve on that.
My long-term goal is to make it into the first team here.
I admire players like Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, and Harvey Elliott. They're all exceptional talents who've followed remarkable paths. They've demonstrated to us younger players in the academy that there's a clear route to success if you're willing to put in the effort, as they have proven."
