Leeds United's failure to defeat Southampton in the Championship playoff final may increase Liverpool's chances of signing winger Crysencio Summerville.
Southampton secured the last spot in the Premier League for the 2024/25 season, joining Leicester and Ipswich, after a year's absence.
This sets up a familiar encounter for Liverpool, who played against Russell Martin's Southampton in the FA Cup's fifth round in February.
The outcome at Wembley might have also enhanced Liverpool's transfer ambitions, with reported interest in Leeds' attacker Summerville.
Earlier in May, Craig Hope of The Mail suggested that Leeds would need to generate approximately £100 million from player sales to balance their books if they did not secure promotion.
Summerville, aged 22, is reportedly the most likely to depart, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Newcastle all showing interest.
The Dutch player, who predominantly plays as a left winger and scored 21 goals with 10 assists in 49 matches in the 2023/24 season, is valued at over £30 million.
David Lynch from This Is Anfield reported in January that interest in Summerville was still in the early stages.
However, David Ornstein of The Athletic has since indicated that there are expectations for a new winger to join Liverpool this summer, suggesting a shift in the situation.
Leeds not ascending to the Premier League next season could mean a more affordable deal for Summerville, with £30 million seen as a reasonable price.
His standout season in the Championship might have persuaded figures like Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes of his readiness to advance, especially after scoring only four times in 28 matches during his last top-flight season.
While Liverpool is a potential destination, other clubs are also interested, but with Dutchman Arne Slot in charge, Liverpool could present an attractive offer.
