Liverpool journalist delivers Kostas Tsimikas transfer stance

Chris Stuart

Kostas Tsimikas has once again been the focus of transfer speculation this summer. However, Liverpool's clear stance on transfers explains the lack of progress in these rumors.

The left-back had a rare seven-week break this summer and returned from the first day of pre-season earlier this month, providing insights into Arne Slot's expectations. The arrival of the Dutch coach presents an opportunity for a new beginning for the Greek international, yet this hasn't quelled the speculation following his 17 starts last season.

Ian Doyle of the Echo reported that currently, neither the club nor Tsimikas have shown any inclination for the player to depart.Tsimikas seems satisfied as Andy Robertson's understudy, and unless there's a push from either side for change, things are likely to stay as they are.

In mid-June, Lewis Steele of the Mail suggested on The Redmen TV's 'Transfer Insight' show that Tsimikas might leave this summer, based on what he's heard. Less than a year ago, Tsimikas committed to a new long-term contract with Liverpool, extending his stay until 2027, which explains the absence of any unrest from the 28-year-old.

Slot is in the process of evaluating the squad he's taken over, and positions may change as the summer progresses. However, it's uncertain if any club will come forward with an offer. Since signing in 2020, the left-back has averaged 21.5 appearances per season, which is half of Robertson's average over the same period.

Robertson joined pre-season training earlier this week, alongside Tsimikas, Owen Beck, and Luke Chambers, the prominent left-backs in the squad, all of whom played in the friendly against Preston.
