Liverpool is reportedly showing interest in signing Galatasaray winger Baris Alper Yilmaz.
The Turkish forward contributed seven goals and 12 assists across all competitions last season, playing a pivotal role in Galatasaray's league title victory. They also advanced to the Europa League knockout playoff round and the Turkish Cup quarter-finals.
According to the Turkish publication Milliyet, the 24-year-old's performances for Turkey at Euro 2024 have attracted attention from Anfield. Although Alper Yilmaz didn't score during the Euros in Germany, he helped his nation reach the quarter-finals, where they were defeated 2-1 by the Netherlands on Saturday evening.
It is reported that Alper Yilmaz's display against the Dutch 'surprised' Liverpool, prompting them to 'immediately start working' on securing a deal. The forward is under contract with Galatasaray until 2027 and is reportedly valued at €30m (£25m).
The report also suggests that his current club is aiming to secure a significant fee following his performance against the Netherlands.
Liverpool's centre-back and captain Virgil Van Dijk praised Turkey and Yilmaz after the Netherlands' victory. He stated, "Baris Alper Yilmaz was constantly running. He was elusive.
"It was challenging for every defender. He made it very difficult for us. He didn't score a goal, though. To describe him in any way, he is a really important player."
Liverpool is not the only club interested in the Turkish star. Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also reportedly shown interest, but Liverpool's qualification for the Champions League might give them an advantage in signing him.
