Liverpool has offered a one-year contract extension to their backup goalkeeper, Adrian. The Spaniard's current deal was set to expire this summer, and there had been no confirmation from the club about his departure. However, the Reds' retained list has clarified that they hope to keep Adrian on board.
Fellow goalkeepers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman have also been offered new terms as their contracts are due to end.
On the other hand, Liverpool has confirmed the exits of Joel Matip and Thiago, along with eight other players.
Players Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf, and Mateusz Musialowski, who have made first-team appearances, are included in the departures. Academy players Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington have been released as well.
Adrian had previously indicated a desire to return to Spain this summer if he received an offer from a La Liga club, saying, "I would like to return to LaLiga after 11 seasons in the Premier League. It would be the end of a cycle," in an interview with Mucho Deporte. "I’m still ready to compete. I feel very good despite being 37."
It seems, however, that the 37-year-old is set to enter his 12th season in English football, embarking on a new era under Arne Slot. Adrian's last game for Liverpool was in the Community Shield win against Man City in July 2022, which was only his second appearance in the past three seasons.
