Liverpool confirms the first addition to Arne Slot's backroom staff.

Arne Slot's backroom team is beginning to form with the confirmation of Ruben Peeters' role in the new structure. The 32-year-old has been the head of performance under Slot at Feyenoord for the past three seasons.

He will now assume the position of first team lead physical performance coach at Anfield, as stated by his agency. Peeters' role seems to intersect with the responsibilities previously held by Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger before their departures this summer. Kornmayer was the head of fitness and conditioning, and Schlumberger was in charge of recovery and performance.

Additional changes to the backroom staff are anticipated this summer, with Liverpool seeking applicants for several positions at the AXA Training Centre, including a first-team physiotherapist and a physical performance coach with a focus on strength and conditioning.

Notably, the job listing for the latter states: "We are aiming to change the way that Medical and Performance Services are delivered at Liverpool Football Club." Liverpool hopes these adjustments will lead to better player availability, following several seasons marred by injuries.

The club is also in the process of hiring a specialist set-piece coach, marking a shift from the previous regime, a role previously fulfilled by Peter Krawietz. Krawietz, along with Jurgen Klopp and another assistant manager, has departed, paving the way for Feyenoord's Sipke Hulshoff to join as Slot's second-in-command. Hulshoff, who had a comparable role with the Netherlands national team, has left his position in anticipation of Euro 2024, signaling his forthcoming move to Anfield.

Slot's tenure as Liverpool head coach, a first in the club's history, is set to commence on June 1.
