Liverpool are engaged in discussions to sell two young centre-backs, with interest emerging from clubs in England, Turkey, and France.

Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio, after being excluded from the first-team training squad by Arne Slot, have garnered transfer interest from clubs across Europe.

Liverpool's new head coach has integrated many young players into his pre-season squad, yet Williams and Koumetio have been consistently absent.

Even with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez unavailable, Slot did not enlist Williams or Koumetio, both of whom made their first appearances under Jurgen Klopp.

Instead, the pair have been training with the under-21s and are attracting attention from leagues throughout Europe.

According to James Pearce of The Athletic, the two are exploring their options with their departures on the horizon.

Williams has caught the eye of League One and Turkish clubs, while 21-year-old Koumetio is being tracked by teams in Scotland and France. Ian Doyle of The Echo has identified Dundee United as an interested party for Koumetio.

Both players were loaned out last season; Williams' time was marred by injury, leading to only eight games for Aberdeen and a brief 16-day stint with Port Vale. Koumetio also divided his season between USL Dunkerque and Blackburn, totaling just 878 minutes of play.

Liverpool is open to permanent offers for both players, and given the clear signs that they are not in the club's long-term plans, it is hoped that the club will facilitate their departures without haggling over the fee.

In the absence of Van Dijk, Konate, and Gomez, who are on vacation post-Euros, Slot's defensive options include Jarell Quansah, Sepp van den Berg, Nat Phillips, and 17-year-old Amara Nallo.

The decision to assign Williams and Koumetio to the U21s seems to signal the end of their Liverpool careers, and now the focus shifts to their next steps.
