John Heitinga has joined Liverpool's backroom staff as an assistant coach.

At 40, he is the newest member of Arne Slot's team, coming on board for the 2024-25 season.

Heitinga earned recognition as a centre-back, securing 87 caps with the Netherlands and playing for clubs like Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham, and Hertha BSC before retiring in 2016.

Post-retirement, he transitioned to coaching, initially overseeing various Ajax youth teams, then leading the club's first team from January to June 2023.

Heitinga's most recent role was as a first-team assistant coach at West Ham United last season.

His latest move sees him aiding Slot and Liverpool in their preparations for the upcoming season.
