Reports suggested Liverpool were open to offers for Joe Gomez this summer; however, the defender is reportedly "committed" to the club.
The 27-year-old returned to the AXA Training Centre on Sunday with teammates Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez.
His return follows significant speculation about his future, especially after Newcastle was ready to spend £45 million on a deal that would also involve Anthony Gordon moving in the opposite direction for £75 million.
Paul Joyce of The Times has indicated that Gomez "remains committed to Liverpool" and "is focused on becoming a key player" under the new head coach, Arne Slot.
He mentioned that "discussions never progressed to the stage where Gomez engaged with potential suitors," even as Newcastle identified him as a target in the proposed exchange.
However, this comes after James Pearce of The Athletic reported that "tentative enquiries" were made to the England squad about arranging a medical for Gomez during the Euros.
Gomez's adaptability will be an asset for Slot, who can now engage directly with his defender after Liverpool's return from their US tour, which concluded with a victory over Manchester United.
The 27-year-old, keen to secure more regular playtime, faces uncertainty over his team status due to the management change, with Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate potentially ahead in the selection order to partner with Virgil van Dijk.
Entering his first pre-season under Slot, Gomez looks back on his most active season in terms of appearances for the Reds, having played 51 times in the 2023/24 season.
