Uruguay eventually snatched all three points through Manuel Ugarte’s 101st-minute winner – a goal that arrived after Colombia had equalised to make it 2-2 in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.
Liverpool duo Nunez and Diaz both started and finished the contest in Montevideo, which Colombia led 1-0 at half-time.
Uruguay had turned the game around to make it 2-1 by the hour mark, but Andres Gomez’s strike in the 96th minute appeared to have secured a point for the visitors.
But, following a lengthy VAR review that resulted in the leveller being allowed, Ugarte scored to claim a win that moved Uruguay above Colombia and into second place in the South American qualification section.
