Brentford have made a significant transfer move by securing the services of winger Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool in a deal valued at £27.5m, which includes various add-ons to sweeten the agreement.
The 21-year-old player, who had a loan spell at RB Leipzig and Hull City in the previous season, has committed to a lengthy contract with Brentford, signing a five-year deal with an option for an additional year to further solidify his future with the club.
Liverpool stands to benefit from this transfer as well, receiving an initial fee of £22.5m from Brentford and also ensuring a 17.5% sell-on clause in case of any future transfers involving Carvalho.
Furthermore, Fulham, the club that initially sold the talented Portuguese winger to Liverpool back in 2022, will also profit from this deal, as they are entitled to receive 20% of the profit generated from Carvalho's move to Brentford.
It is noteworthy that Brentford managed to outmaneuver Southampton in securing Carvalho's signature, especially after Liverpool rejected a £15m offer from the former club. This indicates the high demand and competition for the promising winger.
Carvalho's journey so far has seen its ups and downs, as he faced challenges in making an impact during his time at Anfield, managing to score only three goals in 21 competitive appearances. However, his loan spell at Leipzig and subsequent move to Hull City showcased his potential, with nine goals in 20 games for the Tigers, narrowly missing out on the play-offs, hinting at a bright future ahead for the young talent in his new chapter at Brentford.
