Sepp van den Berg completes Transfer to Brentford

The 22-year-old defender has signed a five-year contract.

Van den Berg moved to Liverpool from the Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle in 2019. During his time with the Reds, he made four senior appearances and was loaned out to Preston North End, Schalke, and Mainz.

Head coach Thomas Frank expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I'm very pleased that we have managed to sign Sepp. I believe this is an excellent acquisition for both the club and the team.

"Sepp is a centre-back who performs at a high level and possesses the potential for further development.

"He embodies our culture and playing style: he's fast, has a strong understanding of the game, and maintains composure on the ball during build-up play and critical defensive maneuvers.

"Sepp has an outstanding personality, and I'm confident that he will integrate seamlessly into the group and contribute to our advancement."

"Sepp embodies our culture and playing style: he's fast, understands the game well, and remains composed on the ball during build-up play and crucial defensive maneuvers," added Thomas Frank.

After advancing through Zwolle's youth system, van den Berg debuted with the first team in March 2018.

Before his transfer to Liverpool in June 2019, van den Berg appeared an additional 21 times for Zwolle.

During his first season at Anfield, he made four first-team appearances in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and was on the bench for the FIFA Club World Cup final when Liverpool defeated Flamengo 1-0 in Qatar in December 2019.

In February 2021, van den Berg joined Preston North End on loan in the Sky Bet Championship.

His 16 performances were impressive, and he returned to Deepdale for the 2021/22 season.

Over two loan periods with Preston, van den Berg accumulated 66 appearances, demonstrating his adaptability by playing both centre-back and right-back.

He continued his development in the Bundesliga with a loan to Schalke 04 for the 2022/23 season.

Despite an ankle injury limiting him to nine games for Schalke, van den Berg rejoined the German top division for the 2023/24 season with FSV Mainz 05.

He participated in 35 matches across all competitions, netting three goals, including a crucial equalizer in a 1-1 Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund.

Van den Berg, who earned 10 caps and scored three goals for the Netherlands Under-19s, debuted for the Netherlands Under-21s in a 5-0 victory over Wales in October 2021 and has since made eight appearances for the team.
