Despite Liverpool offering Adrian a new one-year contract to remain at Anfield, reports from Spain suggest that the third-choice goalkeeper will instead move to LaLiga. Adrian's current contract with the Reds is set to expire at the end of the month, at which point he would be free to join another club.
Liverpool, however, are keen to retain the 37-year-old for another season and confirmed last week that they have extended a new contract offer. This development comes even though Adrian has expressed a desire to return to Spain and join a LaLiga club, stating last month that it would mark "the end of a cycle." It now seems more probable that he will return to Spain rather than prolong his tenure at Liverpool for a sixth season, as Mundo Deportivo reports that he has set aside the offer from the Reds.
The speculation is that he will rejoin his childhood club, Real Betis, to replace Claudio Bravo, who is also leaving on a free transfer. If he moves, Adrian would serve as the backup to first-choice goalkeeper Rui Silva and the alternative Fran Vieites, mirroring his third-choice role at Liverpool.
Discussions between Adrian and Real Betis have reportedly taken place, with the seasoned player having been allowed to engage with clubs outside of England since the start of the year. Adrian is a product of the Real Betis academy, where he spent 15 years, including a stint as the first-choice goalkeeper, before transferring to the Premier League with West Ham in 2013.
